Our clients asked us to design a new house on a spectacular greenfield site on a hilltop in Connecticut, USA. Through many discussions, the design was developed for a plan that cranked around the hilltop allowing all the principal rooms to enjoy the views and through its southerly, easterly and westerly aspects to take advantage of the sun all through the day.

The relaxed design drew upon our UK and US experience as country house architects versed in high quality traditional design and included a central stair hall with a dramatic staircase, tall family living rooms and generous staff quarters. Further involvement included landscaped gardens and outbuildings.

The house was constructed in the local technologies of timber frame clad with cedar shingles and cedar boarding with a natural slate roof.
